Castine Jan 10th 2013


This weeks hike was a cross country ski and snow shoe outing in Castine at Bob and Sandy's house.  Sunny skies and the promise of hot soup coaxed about 30 DOC members out for the day.

DOWNEAST OUTING CLUB

Activity schedule – January, February, March 2013

Unless otherwise specified, we meet at 10 a.m. All activities are subject to last minute changes, so watch for email updates and be sure to call the contact person before heading out. If you cannot reach the contact person, call Gloria H. In consideration of other hikers, please, no dogs on the trail. Remember to bring your lunch. At this time of year, all hikes will be walk, ski or snowshoe, depending on conditions.

January 3: Walden Park trails, part of the Bangor Land Trust. Call Shirley E. if you plan to attend.

January 10: Cross country ski or snow shoe in Castine at Bob & Sandys house.  2+ miles of groomed trails and hot soup for lunch.  Call Bob or Sandra B. if you plan to attend.

January 17: Little Duck Pond, with a walk (or ski or snowshoe) across the pond, in Ellsworth. Call Jane or Gordon R. if you plan to attend.

January 24: Piney Knoll Conservation Area, Orono Land Trust trails, with lunch afterward at the Family Dog in Orono. Call Valerie L, or Christina D. if you plan to attend.

January 31: Witch Hole Pond carriage road, Acadia National Park. Call Don P. if you plan to attend.

February 7: Sunrise Trail (rails to trails) in Franklin, with soup afterward at the home of Call Mary Beth or Frank D. if you plan to attend.

February 14: DeMerritt Forest trails at the University of Maine – with a chance to buy goodies at LaBree’s Bakery. Call Sue S. if you plan to attend.

February 21: Ski or hike or snowshoe in the Waterville area. Call Bruce N. Jim R if you plan to attend.

February 28: RR tracks behind High Street in Ellsworth going northeast to Washington Junction through a large bog. Call Linda B. if you plan to attend.

March 7: Quarterly meeting and potluck lunch at noon, St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Hosts: George E.and Gail D.and Ann and David J Let them know what you’ll bring -- and don’t forget your place setting.
March 8: Newbury Neck in Surry. Call Ann and David J. if you plan to attend.

March 14: Ellsworth Community Forest, trail to Branch Lake. Call Gloria H. if you plan to attend.

March 21: Bar Harbor – walk to Bar Island, or Sieur de Monts. Call Cora H., and Judy H. if you plan to attend.

March 28: Little River Trail in Belfast. Call Jim and Kathy Z. if you plan to attend.
