Sept 18 Campbell Island

This hike was a rare opportunity to for DOC members to visit this privately owned island with pleasant trails on both Deer Isle and Campbell Island. Gordon and Jane provided the boat ride shuttle service and also trail guide duties for the day.

Despite the cool early AM cloudy sky and wind the day turned out to be most enjoyable with lunch on a sunny beach.

After a safe return to Deer Isle Jane & Gordon invited DOC hikers to their camp for refreshments.

This hike falls into the extraordinary category and a special thanks goes out to Gordon & Jane for a great day.

Bird Watching

If you have a DVD player and an interest in Birds this set of 3 DVD's is a must.

We recently finished watching The Life of Birds series. The three disc series, totaling 600 minutes, was hosted by famed naturalist David Attenborough. The series explored 42 countries, and discussed over 300 species of birds!

We borrowed this video from the Maine Library system, you can also.

The Maine Statewide Catalog combines and links library collections across Maine. A single search scans more than 3 million unique titles and nearly 8 million items. As of mid-2006 more than 110 libraries, among them all the largest academic and public libraries. Efforts to add more smaller libraries are ongoing, with a goal of eventually reaching 300 libraries of all types. A built-in requesting and transaction management system allows patrons of libraries using a qualifying online system to make online interlibrary loan requests. Library staff are able to make requests on behalf of their users, as well. Staff of participating libraries will find more detailed, operational information on the Maine InfoNet site.
