New Ride Share Idea This weeks Hike April 21: A walk in scenic Sorrento

With gas approaching $4 a gallon I thought I would try to start a ride share post on this blog.

It should be possible for each DOC member who needs a ride or wants to share gas expenses to click on "post a comment" or "comments" at the bottom of this posting.

I suggest just posting your first name and last initial (no Phone # or email) with your needs or offers. Hopefully another DOC member will contact you by phone and make the necessary arrangements.

Tip . . . use your most recent DOC member list to locate someone who lives close to you by zip code or telephone prefix

If anybody has a better idea to make this idea work better you suggestions are welcome and you can post your thoughts on this subject also.

April 14th Sears Island

Cora H & Bob & Sandy lead this hike. Early spring weather welcomed 27 hikers to a day in the woods & beach. Bonus: 3 Geocach locations were found by a few DOCers and a impromptu beach clean-up took place.

April 7th Champlain Mountain on MDI

Jane & Gordon lead this hike. 20+ DOC members enjoyed a hike to the top of Maine. Not a cloud in the sky that day.

Frenchboro Island lobster bake; Aug. 13, 2011

This is an early heads up about the annual Frenchboro lobster bake, usually held 2nd Saturday in august (that would be 13 aug this year). This is a wonderful event at an authentic offshore island lobstering community. Transportation by ferry from Bass Harbor, lobster bake, and some hiking for $25.00 (based on last year's price). More info later.

Feb. 4, 2011; Orland Wildlands

Another gorgeous day for 20+ DOCers to enjoy a outing lead by Ellie B. in the Great Pond Mtn Conservation Trust Wildlands. Most of the group cross country skied the Hothole Pond trail, a 6.8 mile trip.

Jan. 28, 2011 Little Duck Pond, Ellsworth

Jane & Gordon Lead about 25 DOCers on a gorgeous winter day on a cross country ski outing that took us across several types of terrain on fresh snow. Flats, hills, a frozen lake, and a RR track, about 6 1/2 miles in all.

Jan. 20 2011 Xc Ski the Pipeline in Hampden

Mindy & Stan B. hosted 20+ DOCers for a great day of cross country skiing starting and finishing at there house in Hampden. Another day of great snow and good skiing conditions. Afterwards we had a cozy lunch in their sunroom.
