May 13 Leonards Mills

George & Gail led about 20+ DOC members on a wonderful hike at Leonards Mills. The pre-hike meeting was pretty buggy but once we started walking the bugs left us alone. It was a cool but sunny day with lunch on the stream.

April 9th 2010

Barred Island Preserve on Deer Island was the destination for 22 DOC hikers led by David & Elise A. Cloudy sky's and a cool sea breeze helped keep the temperature comfortable for the group. After hiking and lunch on Barred Island the group went for a short hike a the Settlement Quarry.

Northport Maine April 1st

Shirley E. led 24 DOC'ers on a 6+ mile walk on the Penobscot coast, the hike started and ended in Northport. The day started out cool cloudy and ended up sunny and 70'. We ate lunch at Saturday cove with views of the Penobscot bay.

2010 Club membership dues

Reminder

2010 Club membership dues of $5 per member were due on January 1st.

It's the end of March and 40 members are still delinquent.

March 25th

Sal R. led the March 25th hikers to the Blue Hill Heritage Trust Kingdom Woods Conservation Area. 13 DOC hikers enjoyed a early spring day in the woods. Warm weather, streams, green moss, and lunch on 4th pond were on the days agenda.

Bowling in Bucksport

February 24th the weather was pretty bad so DOC took its Thursday outing inside. We had a great time with candlepin bowling and pizza for lunch.

Candlepin bowling is a variation of bowling that is played primarily in the Canadian Maritime provinces, Quebec, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Wikipedia says . . " The maximum score in a game is 300 - a perfect game, which has never been known to have been achieved in the history of the sport " The illusive perfect game score of 300 remains illusive to the DOC bowlers also.
